What is a Blog?
I was just talking to a Real Estate agent briefly about the importance of having a Blog. Their response... "Sounds good... I'm sort of techy but actually not sure what a Blog is."
Enter our friend Wikipedia... Here is how wikipedia defines a blog
"A blog (an abridgment of the term web log) is a website, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog."
In laymans terms a blog is simply a place to collect and express your thoughts online. Nothing more than a diary but a diary for the world to see. If you have something to say about real estate, about art, about photography, about parenting, about skateboarding, then a blog is a great place to broadcast your thoughts on the web.
Why do Search Engine's Love Blogs?
1. Blogs often provide unique content
2. Blogs often contain lots of links
3. Blogs are usually light-weight and easy to crawl
4. Blogs have an RSS feed, which means they "broadcast" a single to let the rest of the web know when they've been updated.
Why do People love blogs? (People are more important than Search Engines because they are your customers)
1. Blogs can be entertaining and fun
2. Blogs often provide you with the "word on the street"
3. Blogs tend to be more "real" and "authentic" than the corporate website.
4. Blogs are often filled with relevant and unique content
I know that a lot of you don't need another "thing to do" and you are hearing a lot about blogs. Hopefully this little tid bit will help motivate you to get blogging and to learn more.
