Check out the Cheap Copy

This weekend, a friend sent me this link to a website which is a duplicate of an Ubertor website. (http://www.julialau.ca/) This site is not running on the Ubertor system but it looks just like an Ubertor site. When I say "look" I'm not just talking about the color scheme, but the listing module is the mirror image of Ubertor.

We all know that copy and paste is prevelant on the internet. You find something you like, whether it is text or a cool widget and you want it on your site. But the level of copying on this site is over the top - it is just blatant theft.

Funny thing is if you look closely in the code you will even see the word "Ubertor" a time or two - crazy. If you are going to take the time to make a nice copy at least remove the orginal author's name :)

What do we take away from this little act of theft?

1. Ubertor Starts at $9.99 - Why steal when you can have the real thing so cheap!

2.  It is worthwhile to be tracking your name, your product, your services online. Do you know how many people are writing about you? Have you set up a Google Alert for your name or your industry? If not - take some time to set one up or sign up for Andy Beal's new tool called Trackur - You can read about Andy's product here

3. Final thing - One sign that you know you are offering a quality product is when people start to copy you. Hats off to the team at Ubertor for building such a great content management system that people want to rip it off!
