Matt Cutts from Google Answers - "What's Next for Search Engines in 5 years"

July 28th, 2008
I was reading through my RSS reader this morning just trying to get caught up after a week off and I came across this video of Matt Cutts. Matt is the head of webspam at Google and has a website where he talks about webmaster issues and Googly stuff.

Two questions from this video, that I thought were quite helpful.

1. What do you see from search engines in the next 5 years. - Matt's answer... Searchers are expecting more from search engines. Great point. More and more people are going to the search engines for answers and the searchers are expecting answers. If more people are going to the engines, it also stands to reason that they

SEO Success Story

July 23rd, 2008
I've been a bit absent this week. Currently I'm volunteering to host a sports camp sponsored by our church. The sports camp is a great example of a good use of Search Engine optimization.

Our church website is about... you guessed a church. How did we get Google to rank us Higher in the search results for a sports camp? Currently we are number 2.

I got high rankings the same why you would do it.

1. Add a page to your site dedicated to your keywords phrase 2. Blog about the new page that you added (maybe several times). In your blog you will link to the new page 3. Make sure you use the keyword phrase in

Yahoo Still Fighting, but they do have cool Video Player

July 18th, 2008
So the Yahoo - Microsoft - Carl Ichan saga continues. If you'd like to stay up on the latest Tech Crunch has a nice blog post about the whole thing.

I'm writing about Yahoo for a different reason. I was on the hunt for a nice video player since Vimeo started deleting some of our clients accounts because they were commercial. Check out the Yahoo! player. It is simple, clean, allows for the 16:9 videos (wide screen) and the video is higher quality.

For all the bumblings and wierdness with the Yahoo! deal it seems they are at least getting this right.

I've embedded a Yahoo! video below. If you are reading this

21,000 Reasons to Use Video on Your Website

July 15th, 2008
A while back I wrote a post about 5 reasons to use online video. Today, the Ubertor Blog introduced me to 21,000 other reasons for online video. The agent featured in the video below entered an online video contest and won $21,000 for his client and they both also won a massive HDTV. I guess that makes 21,002 reasons to use online video. You can watch the video below. When you get to the award winning part of the video notice the use of the voiceover in the video. Instead of the realtor being the talking head, he is narrating the story. This approach actually makes editing easier and allows for many different visuals to be thrown in. Great work with the video.

Updated Adwords Keyword Tool

July 11th, 2008
Have you seen the new updates to the Adwords Keyword tool? (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal)

Below is a snapshot of what google is showing now when you search for Keywords

I did a search for "security software" and these are some of the results. Prior to the changes to the tool, you would only see a little bar that said low search volume or high search volume. Now as you can see you are getting actual numbers. This keyword tool is a great place to start if you are trying to determine which keywords to focus on.

Pretty soon I'm not even going need to have a subscription to those expensive

YouTube Meets the Shopping Channel at Shopflix

July 9th, 2008
If you are selling your own unique products, then you need to check out Shopflix.

You create a video and post it just like YouTube, but your channel on their site actually becomes your store online. You can embed and share video in much the same way that you can on YouTube.

The site seems to be especially geared towards young trendy buyers and boutique sellers.

I've got three little kids at home so I snagged this video below from the site about Custom Fire Truck Wagons

5 reason every business should be using video on their website

July 9th, 2008
1. It helps further build the relationship with your potential customers. Imagine someone walking in your store or calling you one the phone and before they even call you they feel like the know you. Business is done through relationships. Video on your website will help build relationships

2. Creating a Video is easier than spitting atoms. I'm not going to say posting a video is super easy, because for some of you it might be a challenge. But with tools like Youtube and with simple cameras like the Flip - You can do it!

3. Creating Video has never been more affordable. You probably already have the tools that you need to create video.
